The Light and Shadow Chronicles symbol no. 6 -Brotherhood of Shadow

Chronicle of Chaos 34 final file resized title and shield changed DPI flat

The cover for my newest novel A Chronicle of Chaos features a shield with eight symbols carved upon it. Each of the symbols represents a different army, faction or group of people within the series. Over the next eight days, to complement the release countdown, I will be posting about each of the symbols to give some background on the armies you can expect to learn about in Chaos and the upcoming novels in the series.

The SIXTH symbol I will be talking about can be seen on the left of the shield:

Repaired shield BofS

This is the sigil of The Brotherhood of Shadow. The largest army on the planet belongs to the Brotherhood of Shadow, a dark cult ruled by the Bavelize – a mysterious smoky creature of unknown origin.

Residing in the huge forested country of Meraxor, the Brotherhood of Shadow are ruled by Vincent Wilder, an immortal warlord locked in eternal battle with Callista Nienna – the leader of opposing army the Children of Light.

In A Chronicle of Chaos, the Brotherhood have summoned four demons to fight for them in a hope to shift the balance of power in their favour.

Characters from this army that you can expect to see in A Chronicle of Chaos include:

Vincent Wilder – Cold and merciless, Vincent has ruled the Brotherhood of Shadow for over 130 years.

The Bavelize – Very little is known about the Brotherhood’s shadowy deity, aside from the fact that it only appears to select few, and even then after completing a specific ritual. It appears to know many things outside of a human’s understanding and has the power to travel between realms with ease.

The Light and Shadow Chronicles symbol no. 5 -Avalanche

The FIFTH symbol I will be talking about can be seen on the top right of the shield:

Repaired shield avalanche

This is the sigil of Avalanche, a high-ranking elite battalion within the Children of Light’s army. They are led by Raven Lennox who is feared and renowned across the world as a formidable warrior.

Recruitment is very limited and every entrant is handpicked by Raven himself. This means that each soldier graced with a position in Avalanche must be talented and extremely disciplined. If there’s one thing Raven Lennox will not tolerate, it’s a lack of dedication.

Characters from this army that you can expect to see in A Chronicle of Chaos include:

Raven Lennox – Chaos’s father and his tutor, Raven plays a huge part in shaping his destiny, and acts as both a shoulder to cry on, and an unyielding mentor in the ways of battle.

Deacon Thialdor – Deacon is another exceptional warrior who trained as Raven’s apprentice (a highly coveted position.) He is not just Raven’s apprentice, but also his half-sibling and best friend. Deacon often calms down raven’s fiery temper, but has his own issues to contend with as he fights a devastating sickness that ravages his body.

Soren Nitaya – Trapped for eternity in the body of a ten year old, Soren is cute and deadly at the same time. He has taken it upon himself to protect the angel Ceres due to the unique weapon that nestles deep within him.

The FOURTH symbol I will be talking about can be seen on the top left of the shield:

Repaired shield angels

This is the sigil of the angels. Usually residing in the kingdom of Heaven, angels’ souls are tied to their realm and they cannot leave Heaven unless they tear their souls in two.

Their existence revolves around protecting humans from the influence of demons, by spreading love, compassion and justice among the people of the Human Realm.

When the demons are summoned to fight for the Brotherhood of Shadow, the angels take it upon themselves to protect the humans before their world is corrupted and destroyed.

Characters from this army that you can expect to see in A Chronicle of Chaos include:

Ceres – A little girl to the eyes of humans, she is actually hundreds of years old in her true angel form. She lives in the Human Realm, dispensing wisdom and advice, and is never far from her loyal protector, Soren Nitaya.

Samael – A magnificent golden angel of huge proportions, Samael is dedicated to honour and justice. He is the offspring of the leader of all angels, Providence.

Icarus – Headstrong, noble, and committed to truth and glory, Icarus is passionate about ridding the Human Realm of any and all demons.

Tenshi – A true pacifist at heart, Tenshi refuses to use violence, no matter the situation. She aids the humans by sending them courage, faith and hope.

Anna – The greatest archer the world has ever seen, Anna is unbeatable with her bow, and her incredible beauty often lures people into a false sense of security.

Cassandra – Cassandra is a true descendant of the warrior angel, Justice. She fights with the knowledge that in order to uphold all that is good in the world, sometimes you have to fight for what is right.

The Light and Shadow Chronicles symbol no. 3 – Nightfall

The THIRD symbol I will be talking about can be seen on the right of the shield:

Repaired shield Nightfall

This is the sigil of Nightfall, a faction of soldiers within the Children of Light army. The Children of Light is a huge army, led by the warrior queen Callista Nienna and her family. A group of third-generation soldiers, led by the arrogant and willful Chaos Lennox, set up an elite task force, which they name ‘Nightfall’.

Nightfall, and especially Chaos, are extremely talented but young and inexperienced. Chaos thinks he can lead Nightfall to win every battle against the Brotherhood of Shadow, but he is in for a brutal shock when the Brotherhood summon demons to fight for them.

Chaos Lennox is the main character in A Chronicle of Chaos.

Characters from this army that you can expect to see in A Chronicle of Chaos include:

Chaos Lennox – Son of high-ranking commander Raven Lennox, and grandson of Callista Nienna, Chaos is well-bred and very skillful with a sword.

Dana Thialdor – Strong, confident and logical, Dana keeps Chaos grounded and she acts as his second in command.

Mercury and Syfer Lennox – Chaos’s twin brothers. They are like their brother-confrontational and disdainful of authority.

The Light and Shadow Chronicles symbol no. 2 – Demons

The SECOND symbol I will be talking about can be seen on the bottom right of the shield:

Repaired shield demons

This is the sigil of the demons who reside in Hell, their souls tied to their dimension until they are released to walk the Human Realm. In A Chronicle of Chaos, four demons are summoned from Hell to fight for the Brotherhood of Shadow against the Children of Light.

Their symbol is known as ‘the black feathers of Hell’ and works as a counterbalance to the angels’ symbol (which can be seen opposite).

Characters from this army that you can expect to see in A Chronicle of Chaos include:

Anathema – An offspring of Malice, Anathema is vicious and cruel and thrives off torture and murder.

Anathema poster new.jpg

Phantom – The commander of the demons, Phantom is powerful and deadly, huge and engulfed in fire.

Malla – A trickster who specialises in illusions.

Anubis – A hulking animal-like monstrosity who kills blindly and indiscriminately.

The Light and Shadow Chronicles symbol no. 1 – Children of Light

The first symbol I will be talking about can be seen on the right of the shield:

Repaired shield CofL.jpg

This is the sigil of the Children of Light-one of the two main warring armies in the series. The Children of Light are led by immortal warrior queen Callista Nienna. Callista is the matriarch of her family, leader of her armies and the ruler of the entire nation of Alcherys (the country where the Children of Light are based).

Their symbol, known as ‘the four daggers of eternity’ was designed by Callista in her early years, when she was first rallying support for her army. She saw the symbol in an ancient text of unknown origin called the Book of Alcherys and decided to take the symbol as her own.

The four daggers represent strength and honour, pointed inwards to stress the importance of looking upon your inner self, and maintaining relations with family. In the centre is the swirl of infinity. This represents the eternal war, brought about by the elixir of youth, the reason why Callista and her army will never age.

Characters from this army that you can expect to see in A Chronicle of Chaos include:

Callista Nienna – Warrior queen and matriarch of the Children of Light.

Hayden Lennox – One of Callista’s husbands, and father of many of her children.

Ryan Thialdor – One of Callista’s sons and a powerful, high-ranking officer in the army.

Jordan Thialdor – Another of Callista’s sons. As a child genius, Jordan became the head of the tactical division in the Children of Light and now masterminds many of Callista’s military operations.

Mikhail Bavelize – A young man who joined the Children of Light after defecting from the Brotherhood. Mikhail has an incredible power, but is reluctant to use it.

D.M. Cain’s epic book cover #1

As I have a HUGE love of awesome cover designs, I have decided to start a new regular  feature, in which I select amazing book covers to showcase on my blog. I will choose these covers based upon my own subjective opinion of the extent to which a cover grabs my attention and provides an overall feel for the content of the story.

DM Cain's book cover of the week

So, without further ado, here is the first of my favourite book covers. The incredible Crown of Stones trilogy by C.L. Schneider (one of the best fantasy authors I have ever read, coincidentally!) I remember, very clearly, the moment I first laid eyes upon the cover for Magic-Price (Book #1). I was fascinated immediately and popped straight on over to Amazon to buy the book, without even reading a blurb. I didn’t need to – the cover told me everything I wanted to know.

Cover reveal for ‘Timeshaft’ by Stewart Bint

Today is the cover reveal day for science fiction thriller ‘Timeshaft’ by the amazing Stewart Bint. This book was originally published on Smashwords in 2013 and is a firm favourite of mine. Mind-bending time-travel science fiction and excellent writing make this an excellent read.

Now with with a brand new dazzling front cover by Troy Johnson, and a thorough re-editing (plus a number of new scenes including new begining and ending), I am very excited to read this brand new Booktrope edition!

So without further ado, here is the striking new cover!

9781513706887_cover FRONT.jpg

Blurb:

By the twenty-seventh century, mankind has finally mastered time travel—and is driving recklessly towards wiping itself out. The guerilla environmentalist group WorldSave, with its chief operative Ashday’s Child, uses the Timeshaft to correct mistakes of the past in an effort to extend the life of the planet.

But the enigmatic Ashday’s Child has his own destiny to accomplish, and will do whatever it takes within a complicated web of paradoxes to do so. While his destiny—and very existence—is challenged from the beginning to the end of time, he must collect the key players through the ages to create the very Timeshaft itself.

“Do our actions as time travellers change what would otherwise have happened, or is everything already laid down in a predetermined plan?” he asks. Stewart Bint’s Timeshaft is an expertly synchronized saga of time travel, the irresistible force of destiny, and the responsibility of mankind as rulers of the world.

All about Stewart Bint:

Stewart Bint is a novelist, magazine columnist and PR writer. He lives with his wife, Sue, in Leicestershire, in the UK, and has two grown-up children, Christopher and Charlotte.

Now the author of five novels, a collection of short stories and a compilation of his early magazine columns, he was signed by Booktrope in 2015, who published a revised edition of his paranormal novel, In Shadows Waiting, in August.

They are publishing a revised and re-edited edition of Timeshaft shortly.
